Job summary:

The data analyst/coordinator will be pivotal in analysing complex data sets to deliver actionable insights that support strategic decision-making and business performance improvements. This role combines the responsibilities of analysing and coordinating data-related activities with designing, developing, and managing data-driven reports and insights.

Key responsibilities:

Data analysis:

  • Collect, clean, and analyse data from diverse sources to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Utilise statistical methods and data visualisation tools to present findings effectively.

Data coordination:

  • Coordinate with different departments to gather data requirements and ensure alignment with organisational goals.
  • Manage data integration and ensure consistency across systems and platforms.
  • Oversee data entry, quality, and integrity processes.

Reporting:

  • Prepare and deliver regular and ad-hoc reports to stakeholders, highlighting key insights and recommendations.
  • Design and develop comprehensive management information (MI) reports and dashboards.
  • Assist in the development of data-driven strategies and initiatives, ensuring reports meet business needs.

Database management:

  • Maintain and update databases, ensuring data accuracy, security, and accessibility.
  • Implement and monitor data governance practices and protocols.
  • Support data governance efforts by ensuring data quality standards and controls are in place.

Advanced data visualisation:

  • Utilise advanced data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to create intuitive and insightful reports and dashboards.
  • Present data findings in a clear and impactful manner to support strategic decision-making.

Compliance and data security:

  • Ensure all management information complies with relevant data privacy and security regulations (e.g., POPIA).
  • Support data classification efforts and manage access controls to protect sensitive data.

Programming and data automation:

  • Use programming languages such as SQL, Python, and R to automate data extraction, transformation, and reporting processes.
  • Develop and optimise automated reporting solutions to streamline management information processes.

Collaboration and stakeholder engagement:

  • Work closely with IT, business units, and other teams to support data-related projects and initiatives.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in MI, offering training and support to colleagues on reporting tools and data analysis techniques.

Continuous improvement:

  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in data reporting, visualisation, and analytics.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance reporting processes, tools, and data quality.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, information management, business analytics, or a related field.
  • Two to four years of experience in data analysis, data coordination, or a related role.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
  • Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and automation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with data governance principles and compliance requirements (e.g., POPIA).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in Salesforce is an advantage.
