This job is for a Director of Consumer Protection in the Gauteng Province. The role is based in Johannesburg at Umnotho House, 56 Eloff Street (Marshalltown). You will work under the Chief Directorate: Consumer Affairs to protect consumers' rights and ensure businesses follow the law.

Key Responsibilities:
- Create and review strategies, policies, and procedures for consumer protection that follow national and provincial laws.
- Check if businesses follow consumer protection laws and provide legal advice.
- Handle consumer complaints, from receiving them to deciding how to resolve them.
- Report on trends or risks that could harm consumers.
- Oversee investigations, compliance checks, and referrals to courts or other authorities when needed.
- Represent consumers in court and manage relationships with other government departments.
- Work with communication teams to raise awareness about consumer rights.
- Plan and manage budgets, staff, and resources for the team.

Requirements:
- University degree in Law (NQF Level 7) and admission as an Attorney or Advocate in South Africa.
- Certificate from the National School of Government to enter the Senior Management Service (SMS).
- 5 to 8 years of experience as a legal practitioner, preferably in civil litigation, consumer protection, regulatory enforcement, complaints handling, compliance inspections, or stakeholder relations.
- Middle management experience is also important.
