This job is for a Data Engineer at Badger Holdings, based in George, Western Cape. You will work on-site to help build and improve the company’s new data platform. The role is perfect for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working with data, and seeing their work make a real difference in how the business uses information.

What you will do:
Design and build strong data pipelines that collect and combine information from different sources. Create systems that pull data from old systems and move it into a modern cloud setup. Develop data models using tools like dbt to organize and structure the data. Ensure data accuracy, reliability, and readiness for reporting and analysis. Set up checks and alerts to catch issues early. Plan and execute the transition from old systems to a new platform. Follow good engineering practices, including clean code, thorough testing, and automated processes. Collaborate with technical and business teams to understand needs and create practical solutions. Document processes, set standards, and mentor junior engineers.

What you need:
Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field. At least four years of experience in data engineering or a similar role. Strong SQL skills, including writing complex queries and optimizing them. Proficiency in Python or another programming language for data processing and automation. Experience building data pipelines in cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform. Hands-on work with modern data warehouses like Snowflake. Knowledge of data transformation tools such as dbt, Airflow, or Dagster. Experience with structured and semi-structured data formats (e.g., JSON, Parquet). Understanding of data governance, security, and quality practices.
