Job Description
What the job is: This is a full-time trainee manager position at Dis-Chem Pharmacies in the Garden Route area, covering stores in George, Mosselbaai, Plettenberg Bay, and Oudtshoorn. You will work under the guidance of a store manager to learn how to run a retail pharmacy store. This is a great opportunity for someone with some retail experience who wants to grow their skills in store management.
What you will do: You will help manage all day-to-day operations of the store, including stock control, customer service, and sales. This includes making sure stock levels are correct, assisting with ordering new products, and keeping the sales floor organized. You will also help with cash handling, financial reporting, and expense control to ensure the store runs smoothly.
You will work closely with the store manager to meet sales targets, especially in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), health, and beauty products. This means helping to set up promotions, monitor sales trends, and share best practices with other stores. You will also assist with point-of-sale operations, like cash-ups, reconciling daily transactions, and ensuring all financial records are accurate.
Customer service is a big part of the job, so you will handle customer complaints, manage loyalty programs, and ensure customers get the help they need. You will also support human resources tasks, like managing staff schedules, leave requests, and training programs. Finally, you will take part in training sessions, complete assessments, and keep a record of your progress to become a qualified store manager.
What you need: To apply, you need to have completed Matric (Grade 12). Some experience in retail store management is required, such as handling stock, cash, reporting, and customer service—at least 1 to 2 years. You must be comfortable using computers, especially Microsoft Office, and be willing to work retail hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
A valid driver’s license and your own reliable transport are necessary because you will travel between stores. A diploma in finance, administration, or a related field would be a plus, but it’s not required. You should be organized, able to handle multiple tasks at once, and good at communicating with both customers and staff.
What you will get: This job offers a market-related salary, medical aid, a provident fund, and a staff account. You will also gain valuable experience and training to help you grow in your career. The position is permanent, so there is the chance to advance within the company after completing your training.
