Rhodes University is looking for three Campus Guards to join their Facilities and Infrastructure team. This job is based in Makhanda, Eastern Cape, and the university wants people who can help keep the campus safe for students, staff, and visitors. The position is permanent, but the university may also consider a fixed-term contract of at least three years.

As a Campus Guard, your main job will be to protect the university’s property, people, and assets. You will patrol the campus to ensure everything is secure and report any problems or suspicious activity. You will also help manage access to buildings and areas, ensuring only authorized people enter. Another important part of the job is monitoring security cameras and responding quickly to emergencies or incidents.

To apply, you need to have completed Grade 12 (matric) and have at least one year of experience working in security. You must be registered as a Security Officer Grade C under the Private Security Industry Regulations Act (PSIRA). A valid driver’s license is helpful but not required. Special Events certification is an added bonus.

The salary for this Grade 5 position is around R191,212 per year before pension deductions, with the total cost to the company being approximately R278,869 per year. The job is full-time and permanent, but the university may choose to offer a fixed-term contract instead. Only people who live in the Eastern Cape will be considered for this role.
