Job Description
We are looking for an Intermediate UX Developer, also known as a Frontend Engineer, to join our team at iOCO in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. This is a contract position where you will work on building and improving modern web applications for Capitec. The role focuses on creating user-friendly, responsive, and scalable interfaces using React and TypeScript.
As a Frontend Engineer, you will develop and maintain modern web applications using React and TypeScript. Your work will include building reusable components and ensuring they follow design systems and best practices. You will translate design requirements into functional code, making sure everything is user-friendly, accessible, and works well on all devices.
You will contribute to shared component libraries and design systems, ensuring consistency across different applications. This means understanding how components can be reused and how changes to shared components might affect other parts of the system. You will write clean, well-structured code and follow established coding standards, including writing tests to ensure reliability.
Collaboration is key, so you will work closely with designers, product owners, and other engineers to understand requirements and solve technical challenges. You will participate in code reviews, help improve development workflows, and use AI tools responsibly to boost productivity while maintaining high-quality standards.
You should have around 2 to 5 years of experience developing frontend applications, with strong skills in React and TypeScript. Experience working with component libraries like MUI or similar tools is essential, as is a good understanding of reusable components, design systems, and component APIs.
You must be comfortable working with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing. The ability to troubleshoot issues, write clear documentation, and follow established technical patterns is also important. While a degree in Software Engineering or a related field is preferred, practical experience can also be considered.
Additional skills like working with themes, design tokens, or micro-frontend architectures are a plus, as is experience with API integrations, Figma, and accessibility principles.
This is a contract position based in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. While salary details are not provided, you will work with a team of experienced professionals on innovative projects. iOCO offers a culture of continuous learning, opportunities to grow your skills, and a collaborative environment where you can contribute to cutting-edge solutions.
