What you will do:
As a Cashier or Shop Assistant, your main tasks will include operating cash registers to process customer purchases accurately and efficiently. You will also be responsible for keeping the store clean and well-organized, including stocking shelves, arranging merchandise displays, and ensuring products are neatly arranged for customers. Providing excellent customer service is a key part of the job, so you’ll assist shoppers, answer questions, and help create a positive shopping experience.

Another important responsibility is monitoring inventory to ensure stock levels are correct and reporting any issues, such as missing products or scanning errors, to management. You may also participate in inventory counts and follow safety procedures to maintain a secure and organized store. Teamwork is essential, so you’ll work closely with colleagues to communicate updates, share feedback, and support each other in delivering great service.

What you need:
To succeed in this role, you need to have completed at least Grade 12 (Matric). While prior experience in retail is preferred, it is not always required, especially if you have strong customer service skills and a willingness to learn. You should be comfortable working with cash registers and handling transactions accurately, as well as following company policies and procedures.

Good communication skills are a must, as you’ll interact with customers and team members regularly. Being able to work both independently and as part of a team is important, and you should have a friendly, helpful attitude. Reliability, trustworthiness, and a strong work ethic are also key traits for this position. If you have experience in a customer-facing role in retail or FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods), that would be an advantage, but all applicants with the right attitude are encouraged to apply.
