Job Description
What the job is: This is a full-time position for an Estimating Manager or Senior Estimator in the construction industry. A well-known building contractor based in Cape Town is looking for someone with strong experience to lead their estimating team. The role involves preparing accurate and competitive tenders for various construction projects, ensuring the company wins contracts while staying within budget.
What you will do: You will be responsible for managing the entire estimating process, from reviewing tender documents to submitting final bids. This includes carefully checking all project specifications, drawings, and bills of quantities to ensure nothing is missed. Using software like Candy or CCS, you will create detailed cost estimates, pricing schedules, and tender submissions that are both accurate and competitive.
You will also assess project costs, risks, and commercial factors to ensure the company makes smart business decisions. Another key part of the job is ensuring all tender documents meet legal and contractual requirements, such as NEC and JBCC standards. Additionally, you will lead and mentor a small team of three support staff, helping them develop their skills while keeping the estimating process running smoothly.
Finally, you will work closely with other departments, like project managers and procurement teams, to ensure tenders are submitted on time and meet the company’s goals.
What you need: To qualify for this role, you should have a degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have between 10 to 20 years of experience in the building construction industry, with a strong track record of preparing and managing tenders independently.
You must be highly skilled in using estimating software like Candy or CCS and have a deep understanding of NEC and JBCC contracts. Experience working on both government and private-sector projects is also important. Leadership experience is a must, as you will be responsible for guiding a team of estimators and ensuring high standards are met in all tender submissions.
Strong commercial, analytical, and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
What you will get: The salary for this role is negotiable based on your experience and qualifications, and the company offers a competitive package. This is a permanent position, meaning you will have job security and the chance to grow within the company.
