Job Description
The University of the Free State (UFS) is offering a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Public Health. This opportunity is open to both South African and international candidates who want to advance their careers in academic or professional public health research. The focus areas include mental health, digital health, and environmental health (planetary health). The fellowship is based in Bloemfontein, Free State, and is available for a two-year period, with the possibility of extending it for an additional year.
As a postdoctoral research fellow, your main responsibilities will include conducting innovative research in public health, producing at least three high-quality research outputs annually, and securing funding for research projects. You will also need to register as a postdoctoral fellow at UFS and participate in the Division of Public Health activities.
To qualify, you must have completed a PhD in a relevant field within the last five years, with a strong academic record and proven research outputs. Applicants must not hold full-time employment during the fellowship period. Both South African and international candidates are welcome, but foreign applicants will need to provide a copy of their passport.
The fellowship offers an annual stipend of R270,000, along with an additional R30,000 for research-related expenses.
