Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Boksburg, Gauteng, is looking for a Dispensary Support Assistant to join their team. This is a great opportunity for learners who want to complete the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. The role is temporary until qualification and registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). Once qualified, permanent employment may be offered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in selling medicines under pharmacist supervision, including Schedule 1 medicines.
- Prepare and pack medicines according to approved instructions and standard procedures.
- Unpack stock, organize shelves, and maintain dispensary cleanliness.
- Read and interpret prescriptions accurately while adhering to SAPC legal requirements.
- Check medications for accuracy, ensure proper labeling, and manage stock levels.
- Handle customer service tasks, including phone inquiries, health information, and appointment follow-ups.
- Authorize chronic medication schemes (HIV, AIDS, oncology treatments).
- Report stock issues and assist with new stock organization.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 certificate (Matric) with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science, and an overall average of 50%.
- Pass proficiency test for Learner Basic Assistant registration with the Pharmacy Council.
- Proficiency in English and another language.
- Strong communication, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
- Team player, honest, and reliable.
- Basic computer and numerical skills.
Preferred:
- Retail or pharmacy experience.
- Knowledge of drug interactions, family planning, and complementary medicines.
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting systems.
