What the job is
We are looking for a Handyman Assistant to help with general maintenance and repairs at different client sites in Matatiele, Eastern Cape. CBRE Excellerate is a leading company in commercial real estate services, offering facilities management, project management, and advisory services across Africa and the Middle East. This is a permanent position where you will work closely with a Handyman to support building maintenance tasks.
What you will do
You will assist the Handyman with a wide range of maintenance tasks, including carpentry work like fixing shelves, doors, and cabinets. Painting and repairing ceilings, walls, and drywall will also be part of your duties. You will help with basic masonry, plumbing tasks like fixing leaks or installing fixtures, and tiling work in bathrooms or kitchens. Additionally, you will support repairs to office furniture and equipment.
You will prepare tools, materials, and equipment for tasks at different sites and help the Handyman inspect buildings to identify issues. Using a smartphone and mobile apps, you will complete digital job cards, track tasks, and submit reports to the Handyman and Operations Manager. You will also respond to urgent site call-outs for repairs and assist with planned maintenance tasks.
You must follow all health and safety rules at all times and ensure that work is done safely and correctly. Sometimes, you may need to stay on standby to handle unexpected maintenance needs.
What you need
You need to have completed Matric (Grade 12) or an equivalent qualification. Some experience in general building or facilities maintenance is required, ideally between 1 to 2 years. You should have basic knowledge of maintenance tasks like carpentry, painting, tiling, plumbing, and general repairs.
A valid driver’s license is necessary, as you will need to travel between different sites. You must be comfortable using a smartphone and mobile apps to complete job cards, checklists, and reports. Good communication skills are important, as you will interact with clients and team members regularly.
You should be reliable, trustworthy, and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of responsibility. Awareness of health, safety, and operational procedures is also essential for this role.
