What the job is: This is a fixed-term position for a Dispensary Support Assistant at the Dis-Chem Pharmacies store in Platinum Park, Polokwane, Limpopo. The role is designed for learners who want to complete the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. This course will help you understand the key principles of pharmacy work, including how to dispense medicines safely and professionally. Once you complete the course and register with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), you may be offered permanent employment as a qualified pharmacist assistant.
What you will do: As a Dispensary Support Assistant, you will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and help with various tasks in the dispensary. You will assist in selling medicines that require a prescription, including Schedule 1 medicines. You will also help prepare and pack medicines according to approved formulas and procedures, ensuring everything is done correctly and safely. Your duties will include organizing and maintaining the cleanliness of the dispensary shelves, unpacking new stock, and checking expiry dates to make sure medicines are stored properly.
What you need: To apply for this job, you must have completed Matric (Grade 12) with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science, and an overall average of 50% or higher. You will need to pass a proficiency test that allows you to register with the Pharmacy Council as a Learner Basic Assistant. Good communication skills in English and another language are essential, as you will interact with customers and colleagues daily. You should be detail-oriented, able to work under pressure, and have basic computer and numerical skills.
