Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Optenhorst, Paarl North, Western Cape, is looking for a Dispensary Support Assistant to join their team. This role is designed for learners who want to complete the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. The position is temporary until the learner becomes registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a basic pharmacist assistant. Once qualified, permanent employment will be offered.
As a Dispensary Support Assistant, you will help with various tasks under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Your responsibilities will include selling Schedule 1 medicines, assisting with the preparation of non-sterile medicines, and helping with stock management. You will also learn to interpret prescriptions accurately, check medication for accuracy, and assist with customer service calls. Other duties include managing stock levels, ensuring shelves are clean and organized, and following up with patients about their medication. You will also help with scheme authorizations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications, as well as reporting stock issues to the dispensary manager.
To qualify for this role, you must have completed Matric (Grade 12) with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science, and an overall average of 50%. You need to pass a proficiency test to register with the Pharmacy Council as a learner basic assistant. Good communication skills in English and a second language are essential, along with strong time management, attention to detail, and customer service abilities. Computer and numerical skills are also important. Experience in retail or Dis-Chem’s front shop is a plus but not required.
This role offers a market-related salary and the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the pharmacy industry.
