Job Description
This job is for a Section Rock Engineer at Seriti’s Klipspruit New Largo mine in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga. The role is permanent and focuses on maintaining mining operations safety by managing rock stability and support systems. You will collaborate with mining teams, planning, survey, and geology departments to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement plans to prevent rock falls and ground instability.
- Develop rock support systems and layouts to ensure worker safety.
- Ensure compliance with company best practices and legal safety regulations (Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals Act).
- Conduct regular risk assessments, address issues proactively, and train teams on rock engineering best practices.
- Analyze rock data to identify defects and safety risks, and develop quality checks for compliance.
- Work with senior leaders to manage technical risks and contribute to safety policy development.
- Support long-term mine planning and stay updated on industry standards through professional associations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mining Engineering or related field.
- Chamber of Mines Certificate in Rock Mechanics.
- Membership in SANIRE.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in rock engineering within the coal mining industry.
- Knowledge of quality control and auditing for rock engineering systems.
- Understanding of mining and safety laws (Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals and Energy Act).
- Familiarity with Seriti’s safety and sustainability policies, rock engineering guidelines, and operational procedures.
- Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Office, SAP) and a valid driver’s license.
- Valid Certificate of Fitness required.
