What the job is

This is a permanent Cashier position at Brights Hardware in Bellville, Western Cape. The main goal of this job is to provide excellent customer service at the checkout, handle payments correctly, and help the business grow by ensuring smooth and accurate transactions.

What you will do

You will greet customers as they enter the store. You will follow the cash register procedures, check the money received from customers, and process EFT payments. You will ring up sales accurately on the register and pack items into shopping bags. You will hand over cash drops to your supervisor for security, perform daily cash-ups, and watch out for suspicious-looking customers. You will also be aware of promotional products, issue gift cards, check reward cards, and cash in points. Additionally, you will keep your work area clean, participate in stock takes, and complete any other tasks assigned by your supervisor.

What you need

You must have a Matric certificate or equivalent qualification. You need at least 6 months of experience in a similar role. You should have completed Brights Hardware’s induction training for service excellence. A clear credit score is required, along with good customer service and interpersonal skills. You must be alert and vigilant, able to handle pressure, and have strong numerical skills. You should be able to work in a team or independently with minimal supervision, pay close attention to detail, and manage multiple tasks at once. Flexibility to work different hours, including holidays, is also necessary.
