What the job is
This is a permanent position for an Operations and Maintenance Manager at Eskom, a leading company in electricity, energy, and water supply. The job is based at the Vanderkloof Power Station in the Northern Cape. The role involves managing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of hydro power stations, gas turbines, and wind stations to ensure they run smoothly and efficiently.
What you will do
You will manage the priorities for both maintenance and operating tasks at the power station. You will oversee and lead a team of employees, ensuring they perform their duties effectively. You will be responsible for maintaining the plant and its equipment to prevent breakdowns and ensure reliability. You will handle the financial management of the department, including budgeting and cost control. You will also direct investigations into plant-related incidents or accidents and determine the feasibility of technical plans and proposals. Additionally, you will implement and manage safety risk programs to ensure a safe working environment.
What you need
To qualify for this role, you must have a Bachelor’s Degree, B Tech, Advanced Diploma, or National Higher Diploma in Engineering with at least 360 credits. You also need a minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical environment. Important skills include leadership, management, coaching, and mentoring, as well as strong knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and plant technology. You should be honest, trustworthy, and have good problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. Computer literacy and financial management skills are also required.
