What the job is
This is a Junior Metallurgist position at Rand Refinery (Pty) Limited, located in JHB East Rand, Gauteng. The company is offering a 12-month fixed-term contract to support the Physical Metallurgical Laboratory. The role involves conducting metallurgical analyses, technical investigations, and quality assurance activities to improve refining and fabrication processes.
What you will do
You will perform routine and advanced metallurgical testing on various samples to support laboratory operations. You will monitor laboratory supplies, maintain stock levels, and obtain supplier quotes when needed. You will also conduct daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly stock counts of precious metals and other valuable materials. Additionally, you will plan, execute, and report on metallurgical test work and technical investigations, research new technologies to improve processes, and produce technical reports and manuals. You will ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards and maintain equipment performance records.
What you need
You must have a Matric certificate and/or a National Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering with a focus on physical metallurgy. You need at least 2 years of experience in a metallurgical laboratory or related industry, including conducting metallurgical analyses and investigations. You should have exposure to laboratory quality systems and technical reporting. Skills required include proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Email) and SAP, analytical and problem-solving abilities, planning and organizing, attention to detail, and strong communication. Knowledge of physical metallurgy, quality assurance, ISO 9001:2015 standards, and precious metals testing is essential.
