What the job is
This is a permanent position for a Turner Artisan at Sea Harvest, a company in the fishing industry based in Cape Town, Western Cape. The role involves working in the Engineering Workshops to create, repair, and maintain mechanical parts and equipment used in fishing, cold storage, and marine operations.
What you will do
You will operate lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and grinding equipment to make and fix mechanical parts like shafts, bushes, bearings, and pulleys. You will measure parts precisely using tools like micrometers and verniers. You will also repair and maintain fish processing equipment, factory machinery, and marine vessel components, including shafts, pumps, and hydraulic systems. Additionally, you will assist with planned maintenance and emergency repairs to keep operations running smoothly.
What you need
You must have a Grade Test Certificate as a Turner Artisan (preferably Red Seal) and a Grade 12 or Matric qualification. You need at least 3 to 5 years of experience in a marine, fishing, or engineering environment, including operating conventional lathes and milling machines. Knowledge of mechanical maintenance, engineering drawings, precision measurement, and safety regulations is required. Basic welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
