What the job is

This is an internship position for a Junior Product Developer at Weylandts Furniture in Cape Town, Western Cape. The role supports the product development team in creating new furniture and homeware products, from design approval to final delivery. The company is part of the retail industry, focusing on design and product innovation.

What you will do

You will assist the Product Developer in preparing briefs for local and international suppliers for new product designs. You will follow up on sampling and costing to ensure suppliers meet internal deadlines. You will help create assembly instructions and technical drawings for new product briefs. You will maintain an up-to-date filing system for all product development documents. You will prepare and update specification sheets with accurate product information for supplier and buyer approval. You will also help evaluate prototypes and samples, providing feedback on design, functionality, and materials. Additionally, you will facilitate communication between suppliers and internal teams to resolve issues and streamline feedback.

What you need

You need a 3-year diploma in drafting or industrial design. You should have technical knowledge of design software like AutoCAD or Fusion. A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in product development, project coordination, or design is required. You must have strong Microsoft Office skills and a passion for materials, furniture construction, and design. You should be creative, organized, and able to manage multiple projects at once. A valid driver’s license and reliable transport are also required.
