What the job is

This is a position for a Food and Beverage Team Leader at Sun International in Cape Town. The role involves managing the daily food and drink service in a restaurant, conference center, or similar venue. You will work to ensure high-quality service and a great experience for guests.

What you will do

You will supervise the daily operations of the food and beverage outlet or conference center, making sure service runs smoothly and all equipment is working properly. You will schedule staff, assign duties, and hold shift briefings to ensure good service coverage. You will regularly check the venue and equipment, work with maintenance teams to fix issues, and be present during service to support staff and assist guests. You will also handle guest requests, VIP needs, and complaints promptly. Additionally, you will meet with clients to plan events, recommend setups, and ensure everything runs as expected. You will manage stock, equipment, and storage, conduct stock checks, and handle end-of-shift cash-ups while following financial controls. You will also monitor food and drink offerings, pricing, and promotions, and suggest improvements. Furthermore, you will supervise staff performance, conduct reviews, manage attendance, and ensure team members follow company policies and grooming standards. You will identify training needs, provide coaching, and help build a strong, motivated team.

What you need

You must have a Grade 12 certificate and a qualification in food and beverage. You need at least 5 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, including work in banqueting, in-room dining, or restaurant operations. You should be able to work shifts, move equipment, and be flexible to work in different outlets if needed. You must have knowledge of food and beverage costing, product knowledge, setup requirements, stock control, and team planning. Proficiency in MS Office is required, and experience with Micros or Opera systems is preferred.
