What the job is

This is a full-time Operations Manager position at Samancor, based in Middelburg, Mpumalanga. The role involves leading production and maintenance teams to ensure safe, cost-effective, and high-quality manufacturing processes in a mining environment.

What you will do

You will oversee the production and maintenance teams to ensure all processes are carried out safely and efficiently. You will identify and manage risks related to safety, health, environment, and quality, and ensure compliance with all relevant standards. You will also handle people management, including performance reviews, coaching, and maintaining a stable workforce. Additionally, you will maintain relationships with stakeholders, manage budgets, and ensure production meets quality and cost targets. You will lead continuous improvement projects and ensure all engineering assets operate at their best.

What you need

You must have a Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering. You need at least 8 years of experience in pyrometallurgical operations, such as BOF, Steel Plant, DC furnaces, or Sub Arc Furnaces, with at least 3 years in a managerial role. A managerial qualification like MTIM, MDP, EDP, or MBA is a plus. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and financial management skills are essential. You should also be familiar with safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) standards, as well as relevant HR and labor laws.
