What the job is
This is a full-time position for an Occupational Health Nurse at Libstar, specifically within the Amaro Foods division in Cape Town, Western Cape. The role involves managing the company’s Occupational Health Clinic and ensuring the health and safety of employees in a manufacturing environment.
What you will do
You will treat minor illnesses and provide unscheduled medication to employees. You will manage and implement the company’s biological monitoring and medical surveillance programs. You will assist in developing health education programs for workers and ensure medical equipment is maintained and calibrated annually. You will perform health evaluations, refer employees to doctors when needed, and attend EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) meetings. You will also develop and implement the company’s hearing conservation program, handle COID (Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases) administration, assist with medical assessments for work-related injuries or illnesses, administer vaccinations, and prepare for and attend audits. Additionally, you will receive sick notes and arrange follow-ups as necessary.
What you need
You must be a registered Professional Nurse with a current SANC (South African Nursing Council) registration and an annual practicing certificate. You need an Occupational Health Nursing degree or diploma, along with authorization to dispense medication. You must have valid certificates in occupational audiometry, spirometry, First Aid, and Basic Life Support (CPR). You should have 3-4 years of experience in occupational health and a strong understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, COIDA, and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act. Computer literacy in MS Office is required.
