What the job is

Helderberg Village in Somerset West is looking for an experienced Building Compliance Officer to join their estate management team. This is a hands-on technical role for someone with strong experience in residential construction and building inspections. The job is based in Somerset West, Western Cape.

What you will do

You will review building and alteration applications and plans to ensure they meet standards. You will inspect construction work to confirm it matches approved plans and village requirements. You will identify any unauthorized work or non-compliance issues. You will manage contractor registration and ensure building sites follow the rules. You will keep accurate records of all building and alteration activities. You will also conduct compliance inspections for properties being sold and communicate with residents, contractors, and professionals.

What you need

You must have a relevant three-year qualification in the built environment, preferably at NQF 6 or higher. You need at least 5 years of practical experience in a similar role. You should have strong knowledge of national building regulations and SANS 10400 standards. You must be skilled in reading plans, writing reports, and handling administrative tasks. A valid Code B driver’s license is required. Registration as a building inspector with SACPCMP, experience in municipal or residential estate work, and knowledge of City of Cape Town systems or sectional titles would be an advantage.

What you will get

The salary offered is between R450,000 and R560,000 per year, negotiable, and includes a Provident Fund benefit. This is a permanent, full-time position with occasional travel required. You will need your own transport for the role.
