What the job is

This is a full-time position for an Instrument Technician at Fraser Alexander (Pty) Ltd., based in Mpumalanga. The company operates in the mining industry and is looking for someone to handle the installation, maintenance, and repair of various industrial instruments and control systems.

What you will do

You will install, test, repair, and maintain instruments that measure and control things like flow, pressure, temperature, and water quality. You will also work on telemetry systems, data logging equipment, and communication devices. Your tasks will include troubleshooting and fixing issues with SCADA and PLC software and hardware, as well as performing regular maintenance checks to ensure everything is working correctly. You will lay out and set up new metering and recording devices and may need to connect related electrical circuits. Additionally, you will ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations, attend meetings and audits, and manage stock control and financial administration.

What you need

To qualify, you need a Grade 12 or N3 certificate, and a trade test in instrumentation (MQA/MERSETA) is preferred. You must have 3-4 years of experience working with industrial instrumentation and control systems, including diagnosing and making changes to PLC and SCADA software and hardware. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage your own work effectively.
