What the job is
The University of the Free State is hiring a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. This is a permanent position based at the Bloemfontein Campus in the Free State. The role involves teaching, research, and leadership in the field of urban and regional planning.
What you will do
You will initiate and conduct high-quality research in Urban and Regional Planning. You will provide research leadership and mentorship to colleagues and postgraduate students. Teaching and assessing postgraduate students in relevant modules will be part of your role, including developing learning materials and providing feedback. You will also provide study leadership at the postgraduate level, participate in community engagement initiatives, and recruit and supervise postgraduate students. Additionally, you will identify and pursue opportunities for external funding and collaborative research projects, as well as perform academic and administrative duties at departmental, faculty, and university levels.
What you need
You must have a PhD in Human Settlements, Urban and Regional Planning, or a closely related field. You need at least 5-10 publications in internationally recognized journals or relevant industry experience. Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship is required, along with an NRF rating or demonstrated potential for obtaining one. Experience in supervising graduated master’s degree students and a proven research record in peer-reviewed journals are essential. You should also have experience serving as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee concerned with research at higher-education levels.
