What the job is

This is a full-time position for a Legal Counsel specializing in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) and Corporate matters at Aspen Pharma Group, based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The role involves providing expert legal support to various business units within the company, including M&A, Treasury, Tax, Digital Technology, and more. The successful candidate will work closely with the Group Head of Legal Counsel for M&A and Corporate to ensure all legal needs are met efficiently and in line with company policies.

What you will do

You will draft and review complex commercial contracts and provide legal advice to assigned business units. You will handle legal work for Group M&A, Treasury, Tax, and other departments, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and meet high-quality standards. You will also contribute to cross-functional legal projects, develop and improve legal templates, and maintain electronic legal files and records. Additionally, you will support the company’s legal strategy and comply with Group Legal protocols.

What you need

You must have a Law Degree (LLB) and be an admitted Attorney in South Africa, with membership in the Law Society of South Africa and the Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa. You need at least 5 to 10 years of post-admission experience in a corporate or commercial legal environment, including drafting and negotiating complex agreements, preferably with cross-border experience. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and financial concepts is advantageous.
