What the job is

Frogfoot Networks is hiring a Fibre Maintenance Technical Assistant to work in Makhanda, Eastern Cape. This is a permanent position with the company, which specializes in telecommunications. The role involves supporting fibre technicians in maintaining and repairing the fibre network to ensure it runs smoothly.

What you will do

You will assist fibre technicians with network maintenance, including both preventative and reactive tasks. You will keep work sites clean and organized, such as manholes and surrounding areas. You will ensure tools, equipment, and the maintenance vehicle are clean, safe, and in good working order. You will help manage and organize cables on slack brackets, perform OTDR monitoring, and save test results accurately. You will also assist with documentation, labeling, and record-keeping, as well as fibre installations, cable installations, and general fieldwork. Additionally, you will follow all safety and compliance standards and report any vehicle defects or damages.

What you need

You should have a Grade 12 (Matric) certificate, and a CFOT certification would be an advantage. You need at least 12 months of experience in fibre maintenance, civil works, or a similar field. Technical knowledge in fibre installations, fibre testing, cable installations, splicing, and fibre duct installation is required. You should also be familiar with Windows operating systems and the installation of ONTs and routers. Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work well in a team are essential.
