What the job is

This is a full-time position for a Diesel Electrical Fitter at SAFLog, a company based in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The role involves working in the Maintenance Department to ensure the reliability and performance of diesel locomotives, specifically GL30/NRE models.

What you will do

You will perform advanced mechanical and electrical maintenance on diesel locomotives, including overhauling engines, traction systems, and control systems. You will also conduct fault finding and diagnostics, maintain traction motors, alternators, and control circuits, and respond to breakdowns by performing field repairs. Additionally, you will ensure all work complies with railway safety standards and mentor junior artisans and assistants.

What you need

To qualify, you must have a Trade Test certification as a Diesel Electrical Fitter (Red Seal) and a Grade 12 education. You need at least 5 years of post-trade experience. Advantageous skills include OEM locomotive training (GE/GM) and supervisory experience. You should be safety-driven, accountable, calm under pressure, and capable of providing technical leadership. Travel may be required.
