What the job is

This is a Junior Data Engineer position at Lesaka Technologies, a fast-growing fintech company based in Plattekloof, Western Cape. The company specializes in financial services like banking, lending, and payments for customers across Southern Africa. You will work in a hybrid role, splitting time between the office and remote work.

What you will do

You will build and maintain data pipelines that move transactional data from source systems into the data warehouse. This includes writing and optimizing SQL queries for reporting and analytics. You will monitor pipeline runs, troubleshoot failures, and ensure data quality by flagging anomalies. Additionally, you will document data flows and schema changes to help the team work efficiently. You may also assist with migrating and modeling data as the EasyPay platform evolves.

What you need

You should have 1-2 years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or a backend role, including internships. Strong SQL skills are required, including writing joins, aggregations, and window functions. You should also have working knowledge of Python for scripting and data processing. Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP, and an understanding of relational databases and data modeling are important. A relevant qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems is preferred. Exposure to tools like Airflow, dbt, or Git is a plus.
