What the job is

This is a permanent position for a Chief Engineer specializing in Security of Supply at Eskom, a major electricity and energy company in South Africa. The job is based in Simmerpan, Germiston, Gauteng. The role focuses on managing power outages, maintenance, and projects to ensure a stable electricity supply.

What you will do

You will oversee the entire outage process, including maintenance and projects. This involves communicating with stakeholders, ensuring compliance with grid codes, updating system corridor information, and managing documentation. You will also prioritize outages, identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and track progress against the medium and long-term outage plan. Additionally, you will work closely with System Operating Control, Network Management Centres, Generation, Distribution, and other teams to resolve outage-related issues.

What you need

To qualify, you must have a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering with 480 credits at NQF level 8. You must also be registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). At least 7 years of technical experience in plant operations is required. Strong knowledge of Eskom and NTCSA policies, network configurations, and technical environments is essential. You should also have skills in analysis, planning, communication, negotiation, and computer literacy. Personal qualities like integrity, honesty, professionalism, and teamwork are important.
