What the job is

This is a job for an R&D Print and Production Designer at a leading e-commerce gift and flower company in Johannesburg, Gauteng. The role involves turning creative product ideas into practical, production-ready designs that can be manufactured efficiently and cost-effectively. You will work closely with creative, production, and supplier teams to ensure products meet high-quality standards.

What you will do

You will translate creative concepts into workable production solutions and check if designs can be realistically manufactured. You will create and adjust artwork for products, packaging, and printed materials, ensuring they meet print and production standards. You will develop prototypes, test materials, and refine designs based on feedback. You will also set up production processes, write instructions, and train teams on new methods. Additionally, you will work with suppliers, solve production issues, and look for ways to improve quality and reduce costs.

What you need

You need a qualification in Graphic Design or equivalent experience, along with at least 2-3 years of experience in a graphic design role. You must be skilled in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and understand print production, pre-press requirements, and file preparation. Experience with die-lines, templates, and cutting paths is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with physical materials and prototypes are also required.
