What the job is

This is a job for an AI Engineer at Cape Union Mart International, a retail company based in Cape Town, Western Cape. The role is part of the Business Intelligence team but involves working across the entire business to develop and implement AI solutions. What you will do

You will design, build, and maintain AI systems such as large language models, predictive models, and automated workflows. You will work with the company’s data platforms, like Oracle Analytics Cloud, to improve reporting and decision-making with AI tools like natural language queries and anomaly detection. You will also talk to non-technical teams to understand their needs, explain AI in simple terms, and help them use AI effectively. Additionally, you will contribute to AI policies, ensure solutions are secure and reliable, and help the company scale its AI capabilities.

What you need

You need strong experience in AI or machine learning engineering, including working with large language models, cloud-based AI tools, and data warehouses. You should be able to turn business problems into technical solutions and have good communication skills to work with different teams. Experience in retail, setting up AI processes, or moving AI projects from testing to real-world use is a plus. Personal qualities like curiosity, pragmatism, and the ability to work with ambiguity are important.
