What the job is

This is a full-time AI Engineer position at Cape Union Mart International, based in Cape Town, Western Cape. The role is part of the Business Intelligence (BI) team but involves working across the entire business to develop and implement artificial intelligence solutions. It is a permanent job that combines technical work with collaboration across different departments.

What you will do

You will design, build, and maintain AI solutions such as large language models, machine learning systems, and automated workflows. You will work with the company’s Oracle Analytics Cloud and data warehouse to improve reporting and decision-making. You will also engage with non-technical teams like Planning, Merchandising, and Finance to understand their needs and create practical AI tools. Additionally, you will help set AI standards, ensure solutions are reliable and secure, and contribute to the company’s broader AI strategy.

What you need

You must have strong experience in AI or machine learning engineering, including work with large language models, cloud-based AI tools, and data platforms. You should be able to develop solutions that move beyond testing into real business use. Good communication skills are essential, as you will explain complex AI concepts to non-technical colleagues. Experience in retail or establishing AI processes is a plus. You should be proactive, collaborative, and focused on delivering measurable results.
