What the job is

A well-known e-commerce, gifting, and retail company in Johannesburg, Gauteng, is hiring an experienced R&D Print and Production Designer. This role involves turning creative ideas into practical, production-ready designs for products, packaging, and printed materials. You will work closely with teams to ensure designs can be manufactured efficiently and cost-effectively.

What you will do

You will assess creative and product concepts to check if they can be produced. You will recommend materials, printing methods, and production techniques that work best. You will create and adjust artwork to meet technical requirements for printing and production. You will prepare print-ready files, templates, and guides, ensuring they meet specifications for color, dimensions, and finishing. You will develop prototypes and test materials to validate product ideas. You will also train production teams, troubleshoot issues, and research new printing technologies to improve processes.

What you need

You need a qualification in Graphic Design or equivalent experience, with at least 2-3 years in graphic design. You must be highly skilled in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. You should understand print production, pre-press requirements, and how to prepare production-ready artwork. Knowledge of die-lines, templates, and printing processes is essential. Experience with prototyping, product development, or packaging is a plus. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with physical materials are required.

What you will get

The salary for this permanent role is between R380,000 and R420,000 per year. You will work in a dynamic environment with opportunities to grow and contribute to innovative projects.
