What the job is
Eskom is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineering Technologist to join their team in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. This is a permanent position in the Auxiliary and Ancillary Engineering department, focusing on developing and supporting technology strategies, processes, standards, and designs for power stations. The role is based at Gourikwa Power Station and is part of the Peaking Operating Unit.
What you will do
You will provide technical consulting and investigation services for engineering projects. Your responsibilities include creating and integrating engineering solutions or designs for asset creation. You will develop and approve technical standards, procedures, and specifications specific to mechanical engineering. Additionally, you will manage evaluations of products, equipment, materials, and services, as well as assess the impact of changes. You will also contribute to technology strategy and direction, conduct research, and participate in national and international technical forums. Providing professional technical leadership is another key part of the role.
What you need
To qualify, you need a B Tech, National Higher Diploma, or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with 360 credits at NQF Level 7. You must have at least 4 years of experience in engineering planning, design, design integration, and engineering management, specifically in power station or electrical network technologies. Professional registration as an ECSA Professional Technologist is required. Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills are essential, along with knowledge of design codes, engineering theory, and risk analysis principles.
