Oil, Gas & Power Senior Manager: Engineering

Job Purpose

To lead, manage, continuously improve and be responsible for the engineering function, ensuring the quality, quantity and milestone outputs meets all requirements as set by the project and industry best practices.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Lead and manage engineering teams to deliver high-quality products on time and within budget
  • Design and develop engineering policies and systems that are aligned with the division’s functional strategy
  • Set up and maintain engineering policies and strategies, engineering best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and change management (CM) processes
  • Accountable for the engineering department budget – planning, forecasting and actual reporting
  • Manage resource allocation and capacity planning for engineering projects
  • Manage and co-ordinate the work within the design department as per the standard operating procedures and project execution plans
  • Regular feedback and reporting of engineering status and progress on projects under execution
  • Regular feedback and recommendations for continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance to the Lesedi Quality Management System
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in engineering processes and methodologies
  • Ensure implementation and continuous performance monitoring of functional strategy plans and initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution and delivery
  • Develop, implement, execute and monitor engineer-in-training (EIT) programs
  • Performance manage the engineering department, ensure up to date and timeous performance management goals of all team members
  • Implement mentor program and ensure personal development plans are updated and reviewed regularly

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree preferred) B.Eng or B.Sc
  • Professional Engineering (Pr.Eng) designation or equivalent certification
  • Master’s degree or postgraduate diploma in project management, leadership and/or management will be advantageous

Experience:

  • +20 years of progressive engineering experience and project execution environment
  • +10 years’ experience in engineering design, of which at least 5 years will ideally have been in the petrochemical and/or power generation industry.
  • +5 years in a senior leadership role managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Proven track record of successful project deliveries in a fast-paced environment

Knowledge:

Technical:

  • Understanding of engineering principles relevant to petrochemical facilities, power generation, utility systems, plant design methodology and system integration
  • Knowledge of the multi-disciplinary engineering deliverables applicable to the entire project life cycle, from concept to project execution
  • Extensive experience in management of engineering activities within large-scale EPCm, EPC and Lump Sum Turnkey projects
  • Capability to develop and execute project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., PMI/PMP, Agile)
  • Expertise in identifying and mitigating risks associated with engineering processes and projects

Financial:

  • Experience in cost control measures and optimizing project expenditures without compromising quality or safety
  • Ability to manage project budgets, cost estimates, and financial forecasting

Regulatory and Industry Norms & Standards:

  • Knowledge and proficiency in interpreting and applying of regulatory and industry norms and standards, e.g. OSH act, ISO 13623:2017, ISO 20074:2019, API Standards (API STD), API Recommended Practices (API RP), ASME etc.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and norms

Quality Assurance and Control:

  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that are in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Change Management (CM) for controlling modifications to engineering designs, systems, and processes.

Operational, Excellence

  • Knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of manpower planning, utilization, monitoring and accountability
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing functional strategy plans that are aligned with the business’ strategic goals
  • Knowledge to streamline processes, standardize processes, use of metrics to measure team performance and innovate new ways of work
