Residential Operations:Food Services Division

The Food Services Division invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

The Department – Description of the Department

The Division of Food Services is an in-house operated catering service that creates a home away from home by providing a hospitable and welcoming environment in our dining rooms. We provide a social environment in which students can interact where they eat, learn, and live. We support local and credible suppliers and ensure nutritional well-being of our students. We are a team of 196 managers, caterers, and food services staff.
Food Services, as part of the Residential Operations Division, provides a support service that complements and enriches the student’s educational experience and, in doing so, strives to ensure an environment in which students can reach their full potential.
Daily, Food Services provides convenient and flexible access to a variety of value-for-money, nutritious, tasty, and well-balanced meals in an environment that is friendly, hospitable, and hygienic.

Main Objectives

Responsible for the supervision of Food Service staff in their kitchen to ensure high quality service delivery.  This includes the production of food as per standard operating procedures and to oversee the day-to-day running of a kitchen that includes planning, organising and co-ordinating.     

The Requirements
Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification plus approximately 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes:-

  • Previous experience within an Industrial Catering environment / Food Services environment where food hygiene, industrial food preparation and presentation were key responsibilities
  • 1 years’ supervision experience OR be in possession of an RU Supervision Certificate
  • Previous administrative experience within a computerized environment. For those who do not have basic computer skills an ability to demonstrate the aptitude to learn such skills is required – this will be assessed as part of the Selection process

Selection Process (provisional date, subject to change):

  • Short-listing meeting scheduled for the 25 February 2025.
  • The selection process that will be followed for this post will include an assessment and/or presentation and an interview.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be informed of the interview date.

Remuneration per annum (Grade 9):

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum:                          R307 301

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately):             R421 604
