SACAP (The South African College of Applied Psychology) is the leading independent provider of accredited Psychology, Counselling, Human Resource Management, Business Management and Social Work qualifications, with all courses grounded in psychology. We have campuses in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Online. 

SACAP is looking for a Librarian for the Durban Campus. The Librarian position at SACAP seeks a candidate with a robust educational background in library or information science, complemented by expertise in library cataloging systems and management tools. Profound organizational skills are imperative for overseeing the library collections, and the ability to deliver outstanding customer service is pivotal in assisting patrons. The ideal candidate should exhibit technological proficiency, possess strong research skills, and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, showcasing adaptability to emerging technologies. Effective collaboration within a team and a genuine passion for literature and learning are pivotal aspects of this role. The ideal candidate will not only showcase problem-solving skills but also actively contribute to fostering a positive working environment within the library.

The candidate will be required to perform various functions that would include:

  • Curate and Manage Library Collections
  • Leverage Library Systems and Technologies
  • Provide Exceptional Customer Service
  • Exhibit Meticulous Attention to Detail
  • Stay Current with Technological Advances
  • Develop and Implement Information Literacy Programs
  • Administer Library Programs and Events
  • Evaluate and Select New Library Materials
  • Collaborate with SACAP departments for Resource Integration
  • Supervise and Train Library Staff
  • Ensure Compliance with Library Policies and Standards
  • Contribute to Collection Development Strategies
  • Demonstrate attention to detail in all aspects of library management.
  • Collaborate with other library staff members for effective teamwork.
  • Actively promote a love of literature and learning within the community.
  • Assisting any and all students as well as educators in finding resources when necessary i.e. online journals, textbooks. 
  • Assisting with printing and receiving of fines


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Library and Information Science.
  • 5-10 years of library experience preferably in Higher Education

Operating Hours:

This is a full-time position operating from Mondays to Fridays*:

Monday to Thursday:     08:30am to 17:00pm; Friday:08:30am to 16:00pm

*Due to the nature of this role, there will be a need to work flexible hours to the extent to which it is reasonably necessary to perform the duties of this position.
