Job Description


The Academic Advisor will report to the Academic Head of the Community Schools group. This role is designed to assist in the management and execution of academic programs across all campuses, ensuring high standards in curriculum delivery, teacher support, student performance tracking and overall academic excellence. 

On an ad hoc basis, the academic advisor will be requested to conduct professional development and workshops for teachers within the scope of their portfolio. In addition, the academic advisor will be responsible to track, evaluate and the monitor the implementation of projects and assess the impact.

Curriculum and content development

  • Assist in developing and refining curriculum content across all grades (4-9), ensuring alignment with CAPS and brand specific policies.
  • Support the creation of 6-week planners with detailed cycle schedules for all grades (4-12)

Teacher Support and Training

  • Coordinate and facilitate workshops together with the AHB on Moderation and Bloom’s Taxonomy in Grade 4-9.
  • Coordinate and facilitate workshops together with the AHB on Differentiated teaching practices.
  • Provide ongoing support to teachers in implementing Inquiry-Based Learning, Rotational Teaching and other innovative methodologies.
  • Work closely with teachers during the transition into Grade 0 to 1, 3 to 4 and grade 7 to 9.

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Support the moderation process (Pre and Post) and ensure compliance with internal and external benchmarking standards such as MAP.
  • Assist in tracking students’ performance through platforms like RESOLUTE, YENZA, GUIDED READERS, KITSO, MAP and ADvLEARN.

Campus Engagement

  • Conduct regular campus visits to provide direct support and ensure the proper implementation of curriculum, policies and additional support platforms.

Cross-Grade and Phase-Specific responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of phase-specific programs such as MAP, Guided Reading, Time2Read, Number Sense, ADvLEARN, Yenza, Robotics and Coding.
  • Coordinate activities related to the Pinnacle Invitational.

Technology and Systems support:

  • Provide support in managing the Student Information Management System (SIMS), ADvLEARN, Yenza, Resolute Robotics, Guided Readers, Number Sense.

Support to AHB:

  • Provide feedback at every Campus Visit.
  • Provide feedback to AHB in preparation for quarterly Manco meetings.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in education (Intersen or FET trained).

At least 5-10 years’ experience in a teaching role.

Strong knowledge of CAPS and experience with various educational assessments and instructional technologies.

IEB experience an added bonus.

Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.

Other Job Related Information:
