Job Description


A leading cold storage and industrial refrigeration company is looking for an experienced Project Manager with strong expertise in managing cold storage facility projects and ammonia-based refrigeration systems to join their team in Durban. The successful candidate will oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of projects across South Africa, ensuring delivery within scope, budget, and quality standards. This role requires frequent national travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end management of cold storage construction, refurbishment, and upgrade projects.

  • Oversee project planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and scheduling.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, and legal requirements, particularly around ammonia refrigeration systems.

  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, consultants, and internal stakeholders.

  • Conduct risk assessments and implement risk mitigation strategies.

  • Monitor project progress and prepare regular status reports for management.

  • Ensure quality assurance and control across all project phases.

  • Supervise installation, commissioning, and handover of refrigeration systems.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously across different regions.

  • Travel nationally for site management and project monitoring.

Requirements:

  • Trade Test Qualification (e.g., Millwright, Refrigeration Mechanic, Fitter & Turner).

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management within cold storage, food processing, or industrial refrigeration.

  • Proven experience working with ammonia refrigeration systems.

  • Project Management qualification (advantageous).

  • Knowledge of building services, mechanical installations, and cold chain requirements.

  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and compliance practices.

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel nationally.
