Superintendent Technical Specialist
Job Description
A global mining and metals processing company is seeking a Superintendent Technical Specialist who will focus on managing, maintaining, and optimizing a company’s server and data center infrastructure.
Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Management:
-
Administer and maintain virtual and physical server infrastructure, including installation, configuration, and upgrades.

Ensure the availability and uptime of the data center and server infrastructure 24/7.

Manage and optimize storage environments.
-
Perform regular backups of critical data and ensure reliable system and data restoration.
-
Continuously monitor systems to ensure compliance with software version criteria and maintain current operating system software versions.

System Maintenance and Optimization:
-
Apply correct patch and firmware levels to all equipment.
-
Continuously monitor system performance to ensure efficient delivery of file, print, and application services.

Utilize deployment technology for software distribution and patch management.

Conduct regular testing of disaster recovery plans to ensure systems are fully recoverable and implement improvements to enhance the process.

Collaboration and Problem-Solving:
-
Work with project managers and peers to solve technical problems, estimate effort, and improve system functionality and reliability.

Liaise with business units to understand current and future technical requirements.

Effectively manage and coordinate service providers and vendors to ensure timely resolution of issues.
-
Research and propose alternative technological solutions to support business systems.

Minimum Requirements:
-
Qualifications: A Diploma or Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) in a relevant field. Certifications in one or more of the following are also required:
-
Microsoft Windows Server
-
Microsoft System Center
-
VMware or Hyper-V
-
Commvault
-
Nutanix
-
-
Experience: At least five years of experience in a related technical role. The candidate should have prior experience with process automation and workflow creation.

Personal Attributes: Must be medically fit, have a clear security screening record, and possess a valid driver’s license if required for the position.

Technical Proficiency: Excellent understanding and management of various Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems.

Hardware and Virtualization: Experience with different server hardware platforms and expertise in VMware and Hyper-V virtualization platforms.

Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills.

Research: Ability to apply research techniques to analyze and interpret data.
-
Customer Service: Strong awareness of customer service principles and the ability to apply them within an ICT environment.
