Job Description
The Kipushi Project S.A. is looking for an experience Artisan, Diesel Mechanic.
KICO, based in the DRC’s province of Haut-Katanga and southeast of the company’s Kamoa discovery, is adjacent to the town of Kipushi and approximately 30 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital of Lubumbashi. Ivanhoe Mines acquired its 68% interest in the Kipushi Project in November 2011; the balance of 32% is held by the DRC’s state-owned mining company, Gécamines.
The Kipushi Project is based on the high-grade, underground zinc-copper mine in the Central African Copperbelt, which mined approximately 60 million tonnes grading 11% zinc and 7% copper between 1924 and 1993. In addition to producing copper and zinc, the mine produced 12,673 tonnes of lead and approximately 278 tonnes of germanium between 1956 and 1978.

To maintain, service and repair vehicles and generators to ensure their availability for surface and mining operations. The incumbent leads a small group of assistants and the scope / portfolio of this role includes performing planned and preventative maintenance, undertaking backlogged repairs, and attending to breakdowns.
You will have the following:
- Qualified Artisan
- 10+ years’ relevant experience as an Artisan Diesel Mechanic working across a range of tools, techniques and equipment
- Experience in the mining environment highly advantageous
You will have advanced skills and knowledge in:
- Yellow machine and generators preventative maintenance & breakdown experience
- Underground experience
- Workshop experience
- OEM diagnostic tools, machine-specific knowledge and experience
- Diesel, Hydraulics, Auto-electrical skills and experience
Your Key Performance Activities will include but not limited to:
Process: Maintain and repair the Yellow Machine fleet and surface generators
Undertake planned maintenance and unplanned repairs on the Yellow Machine fleet, generators, ensuring maximum availability for surface and mining operations
- Service and maintain vehicle and equipment fleet according to OEM standards and safe operating procedures
- Supervise, give instruction and support to assistants
- Assist Line Manager in forecasting and planning maintenance schedule one week in advance
- Agree on requirements including spares and supplies
- Use the Parts Books for all machines
- Check part numbers and stock codes and arrange to be drawn from Stores
- Identify opportunities for maintenance outside of hour-based services
- Organise for correct spares and supplies prior to service
- Perform scheduled services as indicated by Line Manager
- Attend Breakdowns outside of the Workshop area and undertake repairs with a view to maintaining operations
- In situations where Breakdown repairs are unsuccessful, arrange that the machine is towed to the Workshop
- Attend to any Backlog Jobs outside of normal servicing jobs
- Liaise with and take direction from Line Manager, including the prioritisation of jobs
- Undertake fault-finding to identify problems as and when required
- Ensure that repairs are executed in such a way as to avoid repeat problems and breakdowns
- Check that work completed is satisfactory and completed to quality and OEM standards
- Perform end-of-day test, including starting the machine, checking brakes etc
- Record all activities in daily Job Cards, as planned by Line Manager
- Sign off the Job Card and deliver to Line Manager
- Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment at all times
- Monitor and control business processes according to quality standards; policy; and compliance and governance requirements in area of accountability
