IVANHOE MINES is looking for a Chief Accountant, Kazakhstan.

Exploration is in Ivanhoe’s DNA, with active projects in 5 jurisdictions; The newest expansion is into the Chu Sarysu basin of Kazakhstan, which is where this job will be focused. Copper exploration is also focused on the Democratic Republic of Congo and exploration on the Western Foreland; in Angola and Zambia searching for the western extension of the Copperbelt; and additionally in South Africa we are exploring for mineralisation associated with the Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex and it’s potential feeder at Mokopane.

Manage finance and accounting for the Kazakhstan Joint Venture Exploration Alliance (Pallas and Ivanhoe Mines).

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance 
• Qualified Accountant with a minimum 8 years’ post-qualifying experience in financial management, ideally within a mining, energy, or similar industry
• IFRS accounting and reporting, Project Cost control, Budgeting, Forecasting and Financial Analysis experience
• Excellent communication skills in English and Russian(written and spoken preferred) 

Minimum advanced skills and knowledge in:

• Computer literacy 
• Excel
• Fluent in English (Russian preferable) 

Your Key Performance Activities will include but not limited to: 

Statutory Accounting & Tax Compliance

• Maintain full statutory accounting records in compliance with Kazakh legislation (1C or other approved system)
• Prepare and submit all statutory tax filings (VAT, CIT, payroll, social contributions, etc.)
• Ensure timely and accurate financial statement submissions
• Liaise with local tax authorities and respond to queries or inspections

Subsoil Use Compliance & Reporting

• Prepare and submit subsoil use reports (financial and operational) per the Subsoil Use Code
• Maintain clear accounting of reimbursable vs. non-reimbursable exploration expenditures
• Ensure correct treatment of charter capital injections and work program spending

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling across UK and KZ JV entities
• Track and report actuals vs. budget across all Kazakh LLPs

Financial Reporting

• Ensure timely and accurate submission of trial balance, general ledger and supporting schedules to Ivanhoe’s and Pallas’s finance teams on a monthly basis.

Cash & Banking Oversight

• Oversee the flow of funds between entities, including registration, currency management, and charter capital registration

Contractor & Consultant Management

• Maintain records of contractor and consultant agreements, payments, and outstanding obligations to minimize WHT on KZ payments

HR & Payroll Accounting

• Oversee HR processes and maintain payroll records for all LLP employees
• Ensure timely salary payments, tax, and social contributions 

Audit Support & Internal Controls

• Oversee all audit processes, including UK financial audits, Kazakhstan subsoil audits, and regional tax audits.
• Liaise with external auditors (financial and subsoil)

JV/Partner Reporting Support

• Maintain oversight of JV agreements, ensuring all terms, milestones, and payments are tracked and met on time 
• Ensure alignment between local and UK reporting frameworks

Document Management & Compliance

• Maintain complete, organized records of financial and contractual documentation
• Ensure retention and accessibility of all tax and regulatory filings
