Business Development Manager – Renewable Energy
Purpose of the Role
The role focuses on driving business growth by identifying, developing, and closing opportunities for technical consultancy and engineering services within the renewable energy sector. It requires a blend of technical expertise and strong commercial acumen to win new business, build lasting client relationships, and support project delivery teams in successfully converting leads into signed contracts.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales

Identify and qualify opportunities across wind, solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and hybrid projects.

Lead the sales cycle from initial contact through proposal submission to contract close.

Prepare and deliver tailored technical and commercial proposals.

Maintain and track a pipeline of opportunities using CRM tools, with accurate revenue forecasting.

Represent the organization at industry events, conferences, and client meetings.

Build strong, long-term client relationships to secure repeat business.
Technical Pre-Sales

Understand client needs and develop high-value technical solutions.

Collaborate with engineering and consulting teams to define scope and prepare accurate budgets.

Provide technical input into bids and proposals, including risk assessment and mitigation strategies.

Deliver technical presentations and respond confidently to client questions.
Market & Strategy

Monitor market trends, policy changes, and competitor activity to identify growth opportunities.

Share market intelligence with leadership to inform service development.

Support strategic partnerships and alliances to expand market reach.
Handover & Account Management

Ensure smooth transition of projects from sales to delivery teams, with clearly defined scope, risks, and expectations.

Maintain oversight of key accounts to ensure client satisfaction and identify opportunities for upselling.
Required Skills & Experience

5–10 years of experience in renewable energy sales, business development, or technical consultancy.

Proven success in selling technical or engineering services to developers, investors, lenders, or EPCs.

Strong understanding of wind, solar PV, and BESS project lifecycles (development, due diligence, construction, and operations).

Ability to prepare, present, and negotiate commercial proposals and contracts.

Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

Technical background (engineering, environmental, or finance) with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
Desirable Skills

Previous experience in a consultancy environment.

Established network of industry contacts in renewable energy markets.
