Job Purpose

The Head of Infrastructure will be responsible for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Enterprise’s technical infrastructure and platform performance. This includes ensuring high system availability, scalability, and security across all services—including prepaid utilities, channel integrations, and real-time transaction routing. The role is strategic and operational, overseeing cloud infrastructure, network reliability, uptime SLAs, DevOps pipelines, and technical incident response.


Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute the infrastructure roadmap aligned to Enterprise’s growth objectives and product roadmap

  • Lead the architectural design of highly available, secure, and scalable systems to support growing transaction volumes

  • Partner with the CTO and Product leaders to ensure infrastructure readiness for new features and markets

  • Build and lead a high-performing Infrastructure and DevOps team

Platform Availability & Reliability

  • Aim for 99% uptime of all critical systems

  • Implement and manage observability tools (monitoring, alerting, performance dashboards)

  • Oversee incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement of system stability

  • Manage technical SLAs for internal teams, clients, and channel partners

Cloud & Network Infrastructure

  • Own cloud architecture decisions (e.g., AWS, Azure, or hybrid models)

  • Manage network topology, firewalls, VPNs, and connectivity with enterprise and municipal clients

  • Optimize cost, performance, and security of infrastructure footprint

  • Maintain compliance with relevant industry and data security standards (e.g., POPIA, PCI DSS,SOX)

DevOps, Automation & Tooling

  • Drive CI/CD pipeline optimization for smoother deployments and rollback capabilities

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning (e.g., Terraform, K8s)

  • Champion DevSecOps culture across tech teams

  • Integrate testing, security scanning, and monitoring into the delivery pipeline

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Establish infrastructure policies, access control standards, and operational protocols

  • Partner with Risk & Compliance teams to ensure audit readiness and infrastructure security posture

  • Perform regular disaster recovery testing, penetration tests, and vulnerability assessments


Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred)

  • Cloud certifications (AWS/GCP/Azure Architect or equivalent) are highly advantageous

  • ITIL, TOGAF, or other architecture certifications preferred

Experience

  • 8–12+ years’ experience in IT Infrastructure or DevOps, with at least 3 years in a leadership role

  • Strong background in cloud-native infrastructure and distributed systems

  • Proven experience supporting high-availability transactional systems (preferably in fintech)

  • Experience integrating 3rd party systems

Technical & Functional Skills

  • Expertise in AWS/GCP/Azure, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), Linux systems, and automation frameworks

  • Familiarity with switch architectures, payment rails, API infrastructure, or similar platforms

  • Proficiency in observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog, etc.)

  • Strong project and stakeholder management experience across technical and non-technical teams
