Utilities Technician
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Utilities Technician to join our client. The Utilities Technician will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and operating the utility systems, including PV and electricity, in our facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to ensuring the efficient and effective operation of our utility systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel to sites to do regular maintenance and fault finding inspections on assets deployed to sites:
- Understands the technical requirements of the site and ensures that this is incorporated into the project plan and implemented at the correct time by the most skilled individuals.
- Accurate reporting to management on faults picked up and status of their resolution.
- Ensures that the correct procedures are followed during the handover of units to clients, as relates to token metering.
- Understands and is able to monitor reporting dashboards across sites for faults.
- Pays careful attention to the quality of work and conducts detailed quality control inspections on sites where assets are deployed.
- Ensures that issues are dealt with effectively to ensure they do not reoccur.
- Ensures that the technical and quality requirements have been set up accurately.
- Can understand and accurately implement electrical drawings.
- Confirm installations are done according to engineers’ drawings and correct them where necessary.
- Provides assistance and support to contractors, subordinates and colleagues on a daily basis.
- Able to manage multiple tasks at any given point in time between various assets deployed on sites (Solar, Metering, Geyser Control, Generators)
Requirements:
- Electrical Trade Test
- Electrical Engineering Diploma advantageous
- Metering installations and Commercial PV experience
- 3+ years of experience in utility system maintenance and repair
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in physically demanding conditions
- Knowledge of relevant safety regulations
