Grid Engineer
Job Description
Qualifications & Experience
-
BSc / BEng / BTech in Electrical Engineering
-
Minimum 3–4 years of hands-on experience with grid-connected renewable energy systems (≥10 MW)
-
Registered with ECSA (Pr.Eng or Pr.TechEng)
-
Familiarity with South African grid codes, Eskom processes, and regulatory frameworks
Key Technical Skills
-
Proficiency in grid connection studies, load flow, fault level, stability, and power quality analysis
-
Experience with tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, PSCAD, or ETAP
-
Strong technical writing and communication skills
-
Ability to manage deadlines, solve problems independently, and engage with stakeholders
-
Willingness to travel to project sites

Valid driver’s license
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
-
Exposure to hybrid systems and battery energy storage (BESS)
-
Experience reviewing or developing technical schedules for EPC or O&M contracts
-
Understanding of regional power markets (SADC) and cross-border grid interconnection
-
Consulting background or client-facing experience
Core Responsibilities
Technical Delivery
-
Lead or support grid connection studies and assessments for renewable energy systems
-
Compile and review technical documentation aligned with local grid codes
-
Design reviews for HV/MV substations, cabling, and overhead lines
-
Liaise with utilities and authorities to support client applications and technical submissions
Project Advisory
-
Provide insights during feasibility, due diligence, and bankability assessments
-
Assist in interpreting regulatory requirements (e.g. NRS standards)
-
Support commercial proposals and contract reviews for energy infrastructure
Team & Capability Development
-
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal knowledge tools and templates
-
Share industry insights to support team capability growth and strategic decision-making.
