KAMOA COPPER SA is looking for a Superintendent I, Fire Engineer

The Kamoa Copper Mine, is a joint venture between Ivanhoe Mines (39.6%), Zijin Mining Group (39.6%), Crystal River Global Limited (0.8%) and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (20%). It’s a very large, near-surface, flat-lying, stratiform copper deposit with adjacent prospective exploration areas within the Central African Copperbelt, at approximately 25 kilometres west of the town of Kolwezi and about 270 kilometres west of the provincial capital of Lubumbashi.

Purpose of the role:

The Fire Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining fire safety strategies, systems, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. This role involves conducting fire risk assessments, assisting in designing fire protection systems, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to enhance fire safety standards. The Fire Engineer provides technical expertise and guidance on fire prevention, detection, and suppression, supporting overall operational safety and emergency preparedness.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Degree or National Diploma in Fire and Safety Engineering.
  • Firefighter II NFPA/IFSAC certified.
  • Hazardous Materials Operations NFPA/IFSAC certified.
  • Fire Service Instructor I NFPA/IFSAC certified.
  • SAMTRAC or Equivalent registered SAIOSH.
  • Intermediate Life Support Paramedic HPCSA certified.
  • 10+ years relevant experience as a Fire engineer, Firefighter/Rescue technician, Intermediate Life Support Paramedic /with 5 years at a supervisory level.
  • Fluency in English. French or Swahili will be advantageous.

 

Skills and knowledge:

  • In-depth understanding of fire prevention principles, fire behaviour, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of fire protection systems, including sprinklers, suppression systems, and smoke management.
  • Familiarity with fire safety codes and regulations such as NFPA, OSHA, and ISO standards.
  • Expertise in conducting fire risk assessments and implementing fire safety measures.
  • Experience in fire modelling and hazard analysis for predicting fire behaviour.
  • Competency in training and educating personnel on fire safety best practices and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to conduct fire investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Understanding fire safety-related engineering principles and industry best practices.
